 GENERAL LAUNCH INFO / RULES:

  • Our launches are open to the public. In addition to Tripoli Indiana members, we welcome non-members and spectators. Persons under 18 must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
  • Since we are a prefecture of Tripoli Rocketry Association (TRA), our launches follow the Tripoli Research Safety Code.
  • National Association of Rocketry (NAR) rules are observed as well,Model Rockets Safety Code and High Power Rocket Safety Code.
  • Any flier wishing to fly Level 1, 2 or 3 must have their current TRA or NAR membership card indicating their level.
  • Tripoli insurance is in effect during the launches.
  • Tripoli Indiana, TRA or NAR memberships are available at our launches.
  • Level 1 and Level 2 certifications for both TRA and NAR are available at our launches provided you inform us in advance. We must have proper paperwork and a qualified person on hand.
  • The fields can be wet and muddy. Wear proper footwear and appropriate clothing.
  • Please pick up your trash and take it with you.
  • Please supervise your children.
  • IMPORTANT: Please be respectful of the landowner's property at all times. They have allowed us to use their land and we don't want to lose our launch field.

 LAUNCH CAPABILITY:

  • 6 Pads for Model Rockets (¼ A thru D) - 1/8”, 3/16” or 1/4” rods.
  • 3 pads for Mid-Power Rockets (E. F, G) - rail buttons preferred, rods available.
  • 2 pads for High Power rockets (H and up) 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2” rods; 8’ standard 1” (1010) rail.
  • 1 pad for larger, high powered projects with 1 1/2"(1515) x 12’ rail. Please let us know a few days in advance if you require the use of this pad.

 LAUNCH PROCEDURE:

  • Register at the registration table. Pay your launch fees and get your flight badge.
  • EVERYONE that flies a rocket must fill in and sign a daily flight waiver form. You will be asked to show your valid TRA or NAR card if you are flying high power (Level 1, 2 or 3).
  • Fill out your flight card.
  • Prepare your rocket (without igniter) and bring it to the RSO (Range Safety Officer) for inspection.
  • Check with the LCO (Launch Control Officer), he will assign the pad for your rocket.
  • When given the okay by the LCO, take your rocket to the assigned pad, put it on the rod/rail, install the igniter, test the leads for no current, attach the leads to the igniter, and check the continuity.
  • Walk back to the flight line and give your flight card to the LCO.
  • Wait for your flight to be announced.
  • For all certification flights, check with the Prefect before the launch proceeds.
  • Do NOT attempt to retrieve your rocket until the LCO has indicated that the range is safe for recovery.

 There is a family cap of $25 for launch fees. No family, regardless of age, number of fliers, power level, or membership status will pay more than $25.

PURDY LAUNCH FIELD

Tripoli Indiana would like to express our deep and sincere appreciation to Mr. Ed Purdy for allowing us to use his property for a launch field. The field is located in central Tippecanoe County, 6 ½ miles East of Dayton, between US 52 and IN State Road 43 on Tippecanoe County Road 350 South. The launch field is about 1 mile Northeast of McCutheon High School.

FROM INTERSTATE-65 and INDIANA STATE ROAD 38

Go West (toward Lafayette) on Indiana State Road 38 -- 1.5 miles. Turn left (South) on Tippecanoe County Road 475 EAST which crosses US 52 and becomes Tippecanoe County Road 350 South – continue 3.8 miles (West) to Purdy Sod Farm. Turn left (South) onto the dirt access road and drive to the launch site.

ASH GROVE LAUNCH FIELD

Tripoli Indiana would like to express our deep and sincere appreciation to Mrs. Lorrain Garrott for allowing us to use her property for a launch field. We are also indebted to the Faye Fields and Millard Plumlee families for the use of their adjoining properties for rocket recovery. The field is located in extreme northern Tippecanoe County, 3 ¾ miles South-South East of Brookston, East of Indiana State Road 43. The launch field is about 3 ½ miles North of Battle Ground.

FROM INTERSTATE-65 and INDIANA STATE ROAD 43

Go North on Indiana State Road 43 -- 3.5 miles. Turn right (East) on Tippecanoe County Road 900 NORTH – go 1.1 miles (East) into Ash Grove. Cross the railroad tracks, turn left (North) onto Harrison Road. Go 1.0 mile on Harrison Road.  Turn right (East) on Tippecanoe County Line Road North (or White County Road 1300 South) and go 3,000 feet East to the launch site.
